Wotz Cooking in Casoli
Of course we’re biased, but the dramatic natural setting within the UNESCO Alpi Apuane nature reserve, of our little village - hung as it is - on a soaring rockface looking out to the almost distant Adriatic coast, speaks for itself and works it’s spell on just about everyone who comes.
Diffused Kitchens
Elizabeth and Kety open their cute quirky and much loved mountain village houses and their kitchens - to foodies interested in cooking in a Tuscan lifestyle environment and in experiencing a mythical joyous and delicious Tuscan meal in the shade of a covered terrace. Both innately curious themselves to see the décor inside other people’s houses, especially when travelling in other countries, Elizabeth and Kety offer the opportunity of doing just that and of cooking in the kitchens of their two beautiful houses. Of themselves Elizabeth says:
“Cooking with people is a passion. I’ve been doing it for more than 20 years with like-minded foodies from all over the world and all walks of life. Call it therapy, team building, barrier breaking, the wondrous thing is that cooking together is enormous fun."
Not infrequently I am asked why I came to live in Italy from the UK. The predictable response is that I fell deeply in love with a Florentine. A significant part of what’s kept me here for over 30 years is the quality, variety, flavour and availability of seasonal ingredients and of the gastronomic traditions. Having had a restaurant for ten years, gave me the free reign to develop and interpret this passion, and to discover the often hidden world of marvellous local growers and producers of quality artisan produce. Without a doubt my love affair with Tuscan food is second only to that for my special Florentine husband.
Clients requesting cooking lessons opened a door to the buzz of cooking in the company of like-minded foodies. I moved on from our restaurant, fell in love with the natural contrasts of this area between mountain and sea, which induce as if by magic a creativity which attracts artists, sculptors, photographers, writers and epicurians from all over the world. From here I share the joys of Tuscan cooking with foodies curious to have a peek into Tuscan village life and homes. I prefer to think of these experiences as Cooking Workshops, rather than
Cooking Classes or Cooking Lessons. More often than not, anyone attracted to cooking while on holiday, is passionate about food, ingredients and preparation. Inevitably, while all hands are in or on, talk turns to food and to individual territorial experiences. Everyone’s life and gastronomic experiences are added happily to the melting pot. A glass or two of excellent local wine is, of course, never far away.
Kety, born and raised within the curve of the marble mountains of Carrara and the Tirranean sea, shares this spirit of companiable cooking. Culinary soul sisters, together Elizabeth and Kety have roamed up and down fields and hills and waded through ice cold springs in search of local sources of edible elements of grassy hillsides. Sourcing locally grown and produced ingredients and produce is near to a mutual obsession. A lifetime of learning traditional local recipe’s from nonnas and mammas has resulted in Kety amassing an inestimable
gastronomic heritage of local dishes.
